Because I should have started blogging a few weeks ago I already have an updated garden picture:)
Some of the tomatoes are almost to the top of their cages and all of the plants have tomato flowers. The cucumbers are climbing over the side. There are little carrot seeds sprouting. We gave up on the celery seeds and bought some big ones at the farmers market. The pepper is bigger. The zucchini has a lot of buds. We have eaten strawberries. The broccoli has baby broccoli in the middle. Three of the pea seeds sprouted and they are growing quickly each day. Nothing from the green beans (even though most elementary school kids can grow them with a wet napkin and a plastic bag). We planted some green onions that we bought from the grocery store and they have already doubled in size. And the cauliflower is DEAD :(
But we did plant some cauliflower seeds and they are coming up. So there is hope for tomorrow.
I think that I killed them by over watering them. What would happen was that they were wilting so I watered them. By the end of the day they would come back and look alive and happy so I thought that was working. I watered everything in the garden every day. I didn't care that the label said 2-3 times per week. I thought it would be better if they got a lot of water. Until I was talking to my super cool gardening sister. I told her that my stinking cauliflower kept wilting and I didn't know what to do with them. She asked it the leaves were yellow and at that point they weren't. She told me that they were over watered.
She then told me that I should only water the garden when it is dry one inch deep. So before I can water it needs to be really dry or the roots won't grow very deep and the plant wont be very strong. Totally didn't know that. I haven't even water it again yet. To bad that it has been raining every day a lot since then. Ooops!
Hopefully nothing else will die and it will be a good lesson learned:)
