So I'm pregnant and I need a Dr. I already have questions about a lot of different things that are happening. I had a miscarriage and I am worried about a lot of things. So how do you do it in Canada? All the sites you type in your information and expect to have Dr.'s available but there are NONE. I guess I can open the yellow pages and just cold call different Dr.'s all day? Is this how it is done. And as I understand it, you don't choose a Dr. you have one assigned when you are pregnant so how do you get on that list?
The boys and I often go to urgent care because their pediatrician never has any openings that day. Is this what you are suppose to do, or am I messing up the system? I just want a good family Dr. that actually know what to do with kids. Is that possible in this country or am I just out of luck?
I am just ignorant. I'm not trying to be rude. I just want to know if my baby is ok. Should I go to an urgent care??? I just don't get it. I want to call an OBGYN.

Hmm.. my Dr. was out of town when I got preg. with T, and he referred me to an OBGYN in town. I still didn't have a family doctor in town. I actually went to get T's immunizations at public health b/c my out of town Dr. stopped being a family dr. & when I was there, I was given a list of Dr.s that were taking on patients. That's when I got a family Dr. in town! Then with K, I decided to have a midwife- for that, you just call the midwife's office & tell them when you're due & they go ahead & assign a midwife to you (but I know they can fill up fast too, cuz I did call with T, and only one was available- but I didn't end up going with a midwife that time).
I have a nurse friend who works with public health and pregnancy & such- I can ask her what you should do! If you don't get an answer by then, maybe that will help!
i feel you! i nearly tore my hair out when i found out i was pregnant and we needed a dr! i called about 30 dr's the one day, and healthcare connect.. and we all know where that ended up. 1x very frustrated pregnant woman and we eventually got the dr through HCC. i hope they can find you one!
as for OB's, they fill up REALLY quickly too. health care here sucks royally compared to what i'm used to (and i'm sure what you're used to, too!)
as far as i know i *think* you can call an OB/midwife yourself and try get in there. They wont see you until about 20 weeks though unless you're high risk. if you want to make sure baby is ok, you could go to the urgent care clinic and ask for a referral for an ultrasound. or maybe book an ultrasound yourself and pay for it? (not sure about that but i'm guessing you could?)
it's SO frustrating! hope you get some joy.
